The association serves the interests of its members and their professions and essentially wishes to promote the mental health of South African children and adolescents. The association has formal links with other professional bodies such as the South African Society of Psychiatrists (SASOP) and the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). Informal links are with the Psychological Society of South Africa (PsySSa), the Occupational Therapy Association of South Africa (OTASA) and others.
